Russell L. Barker, 59, of 515 N. Sixth Ave, d. at 8:30 p.m. un (Jan 30, 1983) at Hoopeton Community Memorial Hosp where he had been admitted earlier in the eve. Barker was a resident of Hoopeston for many years and lived for a short time in Collison, Ill. He worked at Vermil. Iron Corp. as an inspector for the past 27 years. He served in the US AF during WWII, seeing action in Italy where he rec'd sev. decorations for his service. He was a prisoner of war for a short time. After the war he was a Recruiting Sgt. Barker was a member of the 1st Bapt Ch of Hoopeston, Moose Lodge 1227, Buddy Egnew VFT Post 4826 of Hoopeston & the Spears Dukes American Legion Post in Rossville, Il. B. July 16, 1923 at Mecca In, he was the son of Nelson Lee & Bessie A.. Redenbaugh Barker. He mar. Beverly Joan Jolley on Jan 21, 1972 at Danville Il. She survives. Other survivors include a son, David R. Barker of Ludlow, Ill; a bro. Robert F. Barker of Hoopeston; and five sisters Mrs. Maxine Miley of Rossville, Ill; Mrs. Marjorie Vet of Paxton, Ill; Mrs. Evelyn Porter of Elwood, Ill and Mrs. Linda Livingston and Mrs. Norma Deck of Hoopeston. Fun. serv will be 1:30 p.m. Wed at the HamiltonOrr Fun Home at Hoopeston. Pastor Wesley Hulstedt will officiating . Bur in Mann's Chapel Cem near Rossville, Ill. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Tues at the funeral home. Military services will be conducted at the graveside by the Spears-Dukes Amer Leg Post. The family has asked that mem be in the form of contributions to the American Heart Association.
