Albert Ellsworth Barker, 72, RFD 6, Crawfordsville, an employee of the Monon Railroad 22 years was stricken fatally Monday afternoon while hunting rabbits east of Calvary Cemetery. His body was found by Mrs. Will Layne about 4 o'clock while Mrs. Layne was visiting her husband's grave. The body was guarded by a small black and white dog said to belong to Mr. Barker. A loaded, single-barreled 12-gauge shotgun lay across the right shoulder. Officers who examined the body said Mr. Barker apparently died following a heart attack. Born Feb 11, 1876, west of Darlington, Mr. Barker who had been in failing health three years was the son of Eli and Elizabeth Hampton Barker. He was married twice, first to Emma James of Indianapolis in 1899 and to Gladys Newlin of Crawfordsville in 1943. He was a member of Calvary Tabernacle Church. Surviving are the widow, one daughter, Mrs. Edith Waldon, 1204 Mill Street, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A sister, Mary Barker preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Proffit & Sons Funeral Home with burial at Masonic Cemetery, Rev. Lester Wright will officiate. Friends may pay their respects at the home of the daughter until noon Thursday.- kbz
