New Richmond -- Thomas W. Banta, 85, retired farmer of the New Richmond area, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette, where he had been a patient two weeks. Born Dec 24, 1880, at Canaan, he was the son of Millard and Ellen Sheets Banta. On March 22, 1903, he was married to Lydia Harrison at Canaan. He was a member of the Elmdale Methodist Church and of the New Richmond Masonic Lodge. He had been a farmer in Jackson Township and in the Sugar Grove community. He was educated at Canaan. Survivors include 5 daughters, Mrs. Daisy Fives of Indianapolis; Mrs. Alma Rodgers of Wingate; Mrs. Myrtle Cheek of Winchester, Mrs. Flora Dinwiddie of Osgood and Mrs. Louise Gantham of Anderson; a brother, Ben of Canaan; a sister, Minnie Burton of Anderson; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter, a great grandson, two sisters and three brothers. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Servies Funeral Home with Rev. Rob James officiating. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The New Richmond Masonic Ldoge will conduct rites at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the New Richmond cemetery. -- kbz

NEW RICHMOND - Funeral services for Thomas W. Banta, 75, will be held at the Elmdale Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Thursday, rather than in the place originally announced. Rev. Rob James, pastor of the church, will be in charge. Burial will be in the New Richmond Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church for an hour prior to the services. Mr. Banta died Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. -jlr
