Mrs. Ramona L. Banta, 83, a teacher, died at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, July 24, in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette.. She lived at 604 Parke Ave., Crawfordsville. She was born Nov. 5, 1902, in Newtown, the daughter of Milo N. and Gertrude Riffle Black. She graduated from Richland Township High School in 1920 and received her bachelor of science degree from Indiana University. She taught in Union Township schools until her marriage June 1, 1927, in Crawfordsville, to M. Basle Banta. From 1950 to 1974 she taught in Koeling School and Hobart Township schools in Lake County before moving to Crawfordsville in 1974. Her husband died Dec. 26, 1981. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Crawfordsville, where she taught Sunday School; Edna Martin Circle; Crawfordsville Association of University Women; Indiana and Montgomery County retired Teachers, and College Club in Gary. Surviving are a son, Ronald M. Banta, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one brother, William J. Black, Crawfordsville; three sisters, Mrs. Russell (Thelma) Dean and Mrs. J. Marion (Lee) Kirtley, both of Crawfordsville, and Mrs. Frank (Mary) Drake, Anderson, three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a cousin, Mrs. Kate Taylor, Newtown. She was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Black, in February. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. James Ranard officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Crawfordsville. Hunt and Son Funeral Home, Crawfordsville, was in charge of arrangements. -- Thanks, Cheryl
