Mellott - George B. Banta, 80, a retired constructon superintendent who also had operated a grocery in Mellott several years ago died 2:35 a.m. today in Carmen Nursing Home at Crawfordsville. He was a graduate of New Richmond HS and had attended State Normal College now Indiana State University at Terre Haute. He was a member of Mellott United Church of Christ. Mr. Banta was born May 14, 1895 near New Richmond, a son of Thomas W. and Florence Baxter Banta. He was married Feb 6, 1916 near New Richmond to Alota Monroe. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Georgianna) Riley of near Mellott and Mrs. Maurice (Violetta) Christy of Crawfordsville; a brother, Basle Banta of Crawfordsville; four grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Two brothers and a great grandchild are deceased. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Crumley-Williams Funeral Home at Hillsboro with Rev. Clyde K. Hunter officiating. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Friday. - kbz
