ROACHDALE – Lelan O. Bales, 77, life resident of this area, died at his home at 8 a.m. Sunday after a long illness. Mr. Bales was a retired employe of Hendricks Telephone Co. where he had worked 40 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Crawfordsville and the Fathers’ Auxiliary. He was born April 4, 1893, the son of Oliver and Emma Lee Bales. He was married Feb. 15, 1917, to Alta Dean, who preceded him in death. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Helen Bennington of Roachdale; a son, Glenn of Portsmouth, Va.; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Perkins Funeral Home here. Burial will be in Roachdale Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Monday. – jlr
