BILLY BAKER

Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal, Oct 31, 1885

Billy Baker died of congestion of the stomach on Thurs. eve. of last week. While at school the evening before he asked to be excused that he might go home. He had eaten too freely of green walnuts. He was about 11 years old. He did all he could to aid his parents, who were poor. His countenance was so full of intelligence and he was of such a cheerful disposition that he had won favor from all who knew him, and his death was universally deplored. Though in this life he was a stranger to the comforts of life as enjoyed by many other children. He may now truthfully say with the poet: "My father is rich in houses and lands, He holdest the wealth of the world in His Hands; Of rubies and diamonds of silver and gold, His coffers are full, He has riches untold." - kbz
