Hiram J.E. Bailey, age 77 of 21 (Grant ?) Street, a resident of this city for 63 years died last night at his home. Mr. Bailey was born in Washington, NH July 12, 1839 and as a young man came to this city where he started in the contracting and building business in which he was engaged up to a few years ago when his health began to fail. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Bailey is survived by Mrs. Bailey and one son, Elmer B. Bailey of 17 Clark Street. The funeral will (sorry rest gone)
Note: Found on ancestry.com has Hiram Jason Edes Bailey born 12 July 1839 in Washington, Sullivan County, New Hampshire died: 24 Feb 1916 in Chittenden, Vermont. Married Samantha A. Wheeler (1841-1925) son of Gilman Bailey (1804-1893) and Sarah Edes (1805-1847) with three children, Elmer B (1861-1929); Florence M. Bailey (1864-1892) and William Allen bailey (1879-1882). Marriage was in Hillsborough, NH 10 August 1860 - from this family tree, there seems to be NO connection to Montgomery or any surrounding Indiana counties but since it was in Chester Peffley's scrapbook, I will include it on both GenWeb sites - PLEASE if you know of any connection, let me know !
