Mrs. Bertha C. Bailey, 90, of 1309 W. Main St., died Tuesday in a nursing home here. She was a retired teacher. Mrs. Bailey taught school at Whiteland for 35 years. She lived in Crawfordsville six years. Prior to moving here she lived at Greenwood 45 years. She was a member of National Retired Teachers Association, Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church and Greenwood American Legion Auxiliary. Born Jan. 29, 1885, in Bellaire County, Ohio, she was a daughter of David and Kathryn Cowan. She was married to James C. Bailey. He is deceased. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Walter (Catherine) Fertig of Crawfordsville; a son, Stewart Bailey of Tuscon, Ariz.; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in J.C. Wilson Funeral Home at Greenwood with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home. – jlr
