Austin - Abner VanHook

Abner Vanhook Austin died at his home in Thorntown last Friday at 6 o’clock and was buried at Jamestown Saturday afternoon at 4 o’clock. He was the son of John B. and Nancy Austin and was born in Crawfordsville Nov. 29, 1828. He was graduated at Wabash College in the year 1850 and studied medicine with Dr. Sloan, of this city. He afterward studied law, in which profession he was engaged at the time of his death. At the first call for volunteers in the War of the Rebellion, he enlisted in Co. B, 10th Regiment, under General Manson and served until honorably discharged at the expiration of his term of enlistment.  He leaves a wife, two sons and a daughter.
