Dr. L. Dale Arthur, prominent Charlotte dentist and chairman of the City School board, yesterday morning received a message notifying him of the death of his father, Rev. EA Arthur, 75, pastor emeritus of Milligan Memorial Presbyterian Church at Crawfordsville, Ind at 11:55 o’clock Saturday night. Death climaxed an illness of four months, during which Dr. Arthur had gone to the bedside of his father several times. Arrangements for the funeral were incomplete yesterday but Wednesday was regarded as the probable date. Dr. Arthur left Charlotte for Crawfordsville at 12:50 p.m. yesterday. Rev. EA Arthur, a native of Indiana, was actively engaged in the Presbyterian ministry about 40 years and was widely recognized as a leader in his profession. At the time of his death he was national chaplain of the United Spanish War Veterans, also state chaplain of the USWV and chaplain of the Mexican Border Veterans. He was chaplain of the American Legion post in Crawfordsville and past president of the Indiana State Sons of the American Revolution. In the campaign against Pancho Villa during the first term of President Wilson, Mr Arthur was a member of the American Punitive Expedition led by Gen. John J. Pershing and subsequently he served in the US Army overseas in WWI. Surviving the venerable minister are his wife, Eva Ford Arthur, and a daughter, Grace Maude Arthur, both of Crawfordsville and three sons, Richard E. Arthur of the US Army, stationed at Boston College, James F. Arthur of Evansville, Ind and Dr. L. Dale Arthur of Charlotte.
