Clifford C. Arnett, 36, Rt 5, a former employee of Mid-States Steel and Wire Co and of Allisons and who, as a captain in the Indiana National Guard had served as battalion administrative assistant for the 139th Field Artillery Battalion since Oct 1953 died Sunday at 1:40 p.m. at Culver Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital April 19.
Joining the National Guard in Sept 1935 he was inducted with the 38th Infantry Division on Jan 17, 1941. On active duty for six years, he went to Officers Candidate School in Australia and was assigned as an artillery officer with the 41st Division. He saw combat action in the Philippines and served with the occupation troops in in Japan.

Decorated several times, his medals included the Good Conduct Medallion the Asiastic Pacific ribbon with two battle stars; Philippine Liberation Medal with one battle star; WWII Victory Medal, the American Theater ribbon and the Indiana Long Service Medal 15 years (actually 17). After leaving federal service on March 31, 1947 he rejoined the National Guard the next day and had been a member since then.
Born near Sullivan Ill on Aug 18, 1917 he was the son of Jesse and Clara Crow Arnett. On Jan 2, 1942 he married Thelma Thompson in Crawfordsville. He was a member of the American Legion.
Surviving are the widow; two children, James 10; Linda 6; one brother, Clyde of Crawfordsville who is stations with the US Army in Chicago and several other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Proffitt & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. DOnald McMahan officiating. Burial will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Monday. A military funeral will be furnished by the National Guard. - kbz
