Marietta Arlington, 93, formerly of Waynetown and Crawfordsville, passed away at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014, at Williamsburg Nursing Home, Crawfordsville. She was born March 2, 1921, on the family farm east of Waynetown, the daughter of Verne and Carol Ruth (nee: Marcrum) Remley. While growing up she attended the Wesley Methodist Church, and graduated in 1942 from Waynetown High School. She then graduated from Lake View Hospital School of Nursing in 1943 and joined the Army Nurse Corps in 1943 serving as a Second Lieutenant at Fletcher General Hospital in Cambridge, Ohio. She also worked in nursing at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville and in Virginia, Florida and Texas before her retirement. Her memberships include the Alamo Order of Easter Star and the Christian Motor Cyclists in Texas. She was married to Paul Eugene Arlington in 1952. He is deceased. Marietta is survived by her daughters, Karen and George T. McCann Sr. of El Paso, Texas, and Barbara J. Sams of Spotswood, N.J.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale and Carl Remley. Funeral services for Marietta Arlington will be at noon Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at Shoemaker Funeral Home, 202 Bratton Road, Waynetown, with the Rev. Duane Mycroft officiating. Burial will follow at Wesley Cemetery east of Waynetown. There will be a public calling from 10 a.m. until the services at noon Monday. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
