Waynetown Aug 5 - Henry Ellsberry Applegate, age 82, a resident of this community many years, died at 8:45 o'clock Wednesday morning at the home of his son, Harry L. Applegate, three and a half miles northeast of Waynetown.  He had been critically ill for two weeks with a complication of diseases following several months of declining health.

Mr. Applegate was born Sept 17, 1853 a mile and a half southwest of Waynetown, the son of James H. and Mary Ann Armentrout Applegate and on Oct 31, 1883, was married to Amanda Glaze who died Jan 2, 1932. During his boyhood his family moved to a farm near Rossville, Ill where he lived until after his marriage.  He then returned to the Waynetown community where he spent the remainder of his life, with the exception of six years spent in Jennings County.  He was a member of the Waynetown Baptist Church for many years, having joined that church during the pastorate of Rev. J.C. Bowles.  He was also a member of the Odd Fellows lodge. Besides his wife, three children (sic) and one brother preceded him in death.

He is survived by one (sic) son, Harry L. Applegate, at whose home he died; one granddauther, Mary Louise Applegate; two brothers Edwin and Ezra H. Applegate, of Stockridge, Mich; two half brothers, Bert Applegate of Orange County, Ind; and Lloyd Applegate of Indianaola, Ill; a half sister Mrs. Nathan Kendall of Fairmount, Ill; and one stepsister, Mrs. Effie Rosencrance of Indianaola, Ill.  The funeral will be held from the Baptist Church here at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon. Rev. IC Overman will officiate and burial will be made in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. - kbz
