– Mrs. Mary W. Anderson, 101-year-old Roachdale woman, died Thursday night at the Eventide Rest Home in Greencastle. She had been a patient in the rest home 3 years. Mrs. Anderson lived most of her life in Putnam County where she taught school for seven years. Following the death of her husband, she managed a 200-acre farm until she was 98 years of age. During WWI she was instrumental in establishing and maintaining a surgical dressing school in Roachdale. Mrs. Anderson was born in a log cabin near Fincastle Jan 3, 1869 the daughter of Thomas and Bridgett Kirby Walsh. She was married Dec 24, 1895 to Jesse Newton Anderson. Mrs. Anderson was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church at Greencastle. She was a former member of the Home Economic Club at Roachdale. Mrs. Anderson was the last of a family of 10 children. Surviving are one son, Jesse Fay Anderson of Berwyn, Ill; two nephews, Glen B. Walsh of Ladoga and Edgar Franklin of LaGrange, Ind and niece, Mrs Rawleigh Baker of Danville, Ind. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church in Greencastle with Ft. William G. Ripperger officiating. Burial will be in Roachdale Cemetery. Friends may call at the Baker Funeral Home in Danville after 2 p.m. Sunday. -- kbz
