WAVELAND – Addison L. “Shorty” Austin, 71, died early Monday morning at Culver Hospital. Mr. Austin had been in poor health for a year and a half. He was retired from Combustion Engineering at East Chicago where he had been employed for 20 years. Mr. Austin was born on Christmas Day, 1897, in Kentucky. He was first married to Veola Baise who died in 1942. His second marriage was to Mary Miles on May 13, 1944. The ceremony took place in Crown Point. The deceased was a member of the Baptist Church in Gilstrap, Ky. He also held membership in the Griffith Masonic Lodge and the Low Twelve. Surviving are the widow; two sons, Cebert of Griffith and Frank of Dyer; two daughters, Mrs. Pauline Page of Whiting and Mrs. Naomi Svetic of Highland; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Bertha Gray of New Ross, Mrs. Helen Higgins of Russellville and Mrs. Carolyn Frey of Melbourne. Fla.; three sisters, Mrs. Luvenia Fuqua, Mrs. Delania Daugherty and Mrs. Famie Casey, all of Beaver Dam, Ky.; a half brother, Hilery Casey of Hammond; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Machledt & Servies Funeral Home with Rev. Eldon Coons in charge. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery. – jlr

Addison L. Austin, age 71, of Waveland, Indiana, formerly of Schererville, Ind passed away Jan 13. Survivors, wife: Mary, two daughters, Mrs. Pauling Page of Whiting and Mrs. Naomi Svetic of Highland; two brothers, Mr. Frank Austin of Dyer and Mr. Cerbert Austin of Griffith. One brother, Hillary Cassey of Whiting; 3 sisters of Kentucky. Funeral services from the Machledt Servies Funeral home in Waveland, Ind. He will be shown today, Jan 14. Funeral will beheld Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Machledt & Serves (sic – Servies) Funeral Home in Waveland. Burial in Waveland. He was a retired worker from the Combustion Engineers in East Chicago.
