Ladoga - W. Wallace Ashby, 86, farmer, businessman and former chairman of the Montgomery County Council, died at his home here Tuesday evening (March 30). Mr. Ashby was a 1902 Ladoga HS graduate and in 1906 from Wabash College. He owned and operated the Ladoga Grain Elevator, coal yard and lumber yard and was associated with the Ladoga Building & Loan Association for many years serving as its appraiser. He was a member of Ladoga's Presbyterian Church, where he was a Sunday School Superintendent, deacon, trustee and elder. He was the oldest member of Ladoga Masonic Lodge. A son of Robert Lockridge and Alice Fordice Ashby, he was born July 4, 1884 in Ladoga. He was married September 3, 1913 to Nellie Graybill at her home near Ladoga. Surviving are his wife; a son, Robert S. of Indianapolis; two daughters, Mrs. Grace Burgett of Lansing, Michigan and Mrs. Marianna Irwin of Indianapolis; 7 grandchildren and a sister, Bertha Ashby of Bloomington. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Perkins Funeral Home here, with burial in Ladoga Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday afternoon and evening. - kbz
