Ladoga -Miss Bertha Ashby, 86 of Bloomington, a Ladoga native and retired library at the Bloomington Public Library died Thursday in Bloomington Hospital. She was librarian at Bloomington 40 years and a graduate of Northwestern University and NY Library School. Miss Ashby was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Bloomington and its women's association, member and past president of the Indiana State Library Association and member of Tri Kappa, PEO, Business and Professional Women, American Association of University Women and DAR. She was responsible for introducing the bookmobile concept in Indiana and main reading room at the Bloomington PL was named in her honor. She was born April 14, 1890, a daughter of Robert Lockridge and Alice Fordyce Ashby. She is survived by 8 nephews & nieces. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Perkins Funeral Home, Lodoga with Rev. Joseph Walker officiaiting. Burial in Ladoga Cemetery. Friends may call at Allen Funeral Home at Bloomington 2-5 p.m. Sunday. The family requests memorials be made in the form of contributions to the Monroe County Public Library or the First Presbyterian Church at Bloomington.- kbz
