THORNTOWN – John H. Arndt, 87, of Thorntown, a former orchard worker, died at 3:45 a.m. today in Lebanon Nursing Home at Lebanon where he had been a resident three years. Mr. Arndt worked in fruit orchards at Pasadena, Calif. during his early life. Later he lived many years near Romney. He moved to Frankfort in 1951 and in 1967 to Thorntown to live with his sister, Mrs. Lillian Osborn. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren near Bowers Station, where he taught Sunday School many years. He was born in Starke County on May 22, 1887, a son of Henry and Emma Timm Arndt. He was first married to Ethel Boyer in 1922. She died in 1930. He later was married to Iren Harlan in 1951. She preceded him in death in July, 1967. Surviving are two sisters, Anna Bowen and Mrs. Osborn of Thorntown. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Russell & Hitch Funeral Home here with the Rev. Robert Vancise officiating. Burial will be in Bowers Cemetery near Bowers Station. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Saturday. – jlr
