Darlington, Oct 17-- After being bedfast ever since the 13th day of last July, when he fell from a cherry tree and sustained serious injuries, John Allen Armstrong a well known farmer living near here died this morning at 7:30 o'clock. Mr. Armstrong was over 73 years old and had been a resident of Montgomery County since he was 11 years of age. Mr. Armstrong was born Feb 19, 1838, in the eastern part of Ohio. At an early age he came to Indiana where he has resided ever since. He was a highly respected man and many friends will mourn his death. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Sylvia Smith of Advance and Mrs. Eva Caldwell of Darlington, 3 sisters, Mrs. Margaret Booher and Mrs. Phoebe Hampton of Darlington and Mrs. Mary J. Booher of Jamestown and one brother, William I. Armstrong of Louisiana. The funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the late residence and will be in charge of Rev. EP Conrad, pastor of the St. James Lutheran Church of which Mr. Armstrong was a life long member. Interment in Greenlawn Cemetery. - kbz

Darlington, Ind Oct 17 – JA Armstrong, aged 73 years and a well known citizen of Darlington died at his home here this (Tuesday) morning about 7:30 o’clock after an illness of several months. During the summer Mr. Armstrong met with an accident in which his hip was broken and since then he had been in poor health. He fell from a cherry tree last July and had been physically __ since. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home in Darlington. Rev. EP Conrad will officiate and burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery. Mr. Armstrong had been a resident of Darlington since he was 7 years old, having moved there from eastern Ohio where he was born in 1838. He engaged in farming and was highly successful only retiring a few years ago when his advanced age demanded that he do so. He is survived by a widow, who is his third wife. Two daughters by his first marriage, Mrs. Eva Caldwell, living southeast of Dalrington and Mrs. Sylvia Smith of Advance are also living. Mrs. Margaret Booher of Jamestown, Mrs. CB Hampton of Darlington are sisters of the decedent and William L. Armstrong of Louis__ is a surviving brother. Mr. Armstrong was a member of the Lutheran church at Darlington and was active in its affairs for many years.
