ROMNEY — Wilbur B. "Pat" Andrews, a retired rural mail carrier and 50-year Mason, died Monday in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette. He had been ill for two years and in the hospital for two weeks. Mr. Andrews had lived most of his life in Romney. He retired in 1956 after 36 years with the postal department. He was a past master of Romney Masonic Lodge 441 and a member of the Past Masters Association. He was also a member of Elks Lodge 143 of Lafayette, American Legion Post 306 of Linden and Romney United Methodist Church. He had taught Sunday School for many years. Mr. Andrews served in the Air Force during World War I. He graduated from the Romney School and attended Purdue University. He was born Nov. 17, 1898, in Tippecanoe County to Frank B. and Carrie Brunton Andrews. He married Margaret Haywood on Sept. 21, 1921, in Romney. Surviving are his widow; a son, William B. of Romney; a grandson, Dennis and a granddaughter, Susan; and two foster daughters, Mrs. C. A. Switzer of Sierra Madre, Calif., and Mrs. Martha J. Horton of Torrance, Calif. He was preceded in death by a sister. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Helms Funeral Home, Linden. Rev. Richard Pickering will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Wednesday. A Masonic service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday. A military firing squad will perform graveside rites at Elmwood Cemetery. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Heart Fund.
