DARLINGTON — Ray Anderson, 74, a life resident of the Darlington community, died Thursday morning in Culver Hospital at Crawfordsville where he had been a patient five days. Born Feb. 12, 1887, at Bowers Station, Mr. Anderson, who was active in the business life of his community many years, was the son of Asa and Alice Saidla Anderson. He was married twice, first to Bessie VanHook, who died in 1958. The second marriage was to Leta Hudson in 1959. Mr. Anderson was a graduate of the Bowers High School. He farmed in the Darlington community during his early life and later was in the hardware and implement business in Darlington. Mr. Anderson was a representative of the Greencastle Production Credit Association for a number of years and also was a director of the former Citizens National Bank in Crawfordsville. He was a member of the Darlington Methodist Church and taught a Sunday School class of the church several years. His hobby was fishing. Survivors include the widow; two sons, Raymond and Robert Anderson of Darlington; a brother, Willard Anderson of Darlington; two sisters, Mrs. Donald Peebles of Darlington and Mrs. Grace Wallace of Lake Worth, Fla., seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son and a grandson. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Bright Funeral Home in Darlington. Burial will be at the Darlington Greenlawn Cemetery. Rev. A. L. Vermillion and Rev. J. C. Stansell will be the officiating ministers. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday. -
