Waveland Independent: Mrs. John Alward died last Friday after a brief illness. Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church on Saturday, conducted by Rev. A. C. Geyer. Susan McCarty was born near Crawfordsville, Mary 3, 1867, was married to John H. Alward, Nov. 24, 1877. She united with the Mount Zion M. E. Church, near Crawfordville, at the age of 15, and lived a consistent Christian life, winning the respect of neighbors, friends, and all who knew her. She was the devoted mother of four small children, the youngest being but two months old. - kbz
