The death of Nathaniel Akers occurred at St. Mary’s Hospital, Kansas City, Mo Wednesday morning at 10:40 o’clock, April 9, 1913. Mr. Akers had suffered severely from stomach trouble during the past few months and as a last resort an operation was performed last week for the removal of a tumor from the stomach. He rallied for a few days but his age and weakened condition were against him. The body was brought to Wellsville Thursday and the funeral services were held at the Baptist Church Friday afternoon at one o’clock. Interment was in the Wellsville cemetery. The Rev. LR Johnson conducted the services. Nathaniel Akers was born in Franklin County, Virginia June 19, 1830. Death occurred at the age of 82 years 9 months and 21 days. He was married to Mahala Francis Turner Feb 2, 1851. They lived in Virginia till 1857 moving overland to Indiana. In 1870 they came overland to Kansas locating six miles southwest of Wellsville, living there till the year 1889 when they moved to Wellsville where he lived until his death. His wife preceded him ten years. He, with his wife, united with the Freewill Baptist Church in 1865 after coming to Kansas they united with the Wesllsville Baptist Church. They celebrated their golden wedding Feb 2, 1901. Mr. Akers leaves four daughters, Mrs. Sarah Forgey, Mrs. Amanada Todd, Mrs. Lydia Rabeck, all of Wellsville and Mrs. Minnie Hays of Wichita; two brothers, Joel and William Akers of Ottawa; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
