A Crawfordsville man died early today after being found by state troopers trapped in the wreckage of his pickup truck on Indiana 25 in Carroll County. Wade C. Allen, 51, of Rt. 2 died a few minutes after troopers found him at 11:55 p.m. Thursday. The exact cause of death will not be determined until after an autopsy is completed later today, according to state police. Officers were delayed finding the wrecked pickup truck because of incomplete information, according to state police. At 10:30 p.m. a Norfolk & Western train crew reported spotting a pickup truck in a steep ditch along the highway. Troopers and Carroll County deputies started a search along the 19-miie stretch of highway between Logansport and Delphi. At 11:45 p.m. state police received a second report concerning the wreckage from a different train crew. Officers said they obtained more information with the second call and started searching the designated area on foot. Allen was found at 11:55. According to the first officers on the scene he was alive at the time but expired a few minutes later. Investigating officers theorized Allen was southbound on Indiana 25 prior to 10:30 p.m. Thursday and for some reason crossed the centerline and left the pavement on the opposite side of the roadway. The truck went over a steep embankment and crashed at the bottom of a 12-foot ditch. The vehicle was equipped with seat belts that were not in use at the time of the mishap. – jlr
