Harris ALKIRE, son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Alkire of Dana who formerly lived here, was injured in an auto accident a few days since. The car in which he was riding with Herbert Dunivan, Opal and Florence Harper was in a head-on collision with another car on Rd. 36 north of Newport. Alkire was rendered unconscious and suffered concussion of the brain. The others but slightly injured. - kbz

Harris Alkire is reported to be on the road to recovery. The accident happened because both cars were running without lights. Don't forget that the motor cops will be looking over lights next week and be sure that yours are all right. Even if the cops don't see you, you might meet some other careless person. - kbz

Note: NO idea why I put this as an obituary other than when I typed it it was not easy to discover if he recovered or not - he did and married -- born 12-17-1910 in Plainfield and died in Hendricks County 9-5-1954 of a heart attack. Father: William H. Alkire and mother, Bertha Terry. Wife Fern.  Buried Roselawn Cemetery, Terre Haute Indiana.  Prety sure this is him - Terry Harris Alkire as this family lived in Waveland in 1930.  Hopefully, some day I'll get his real obit
