LEBANON—James R. Alexander, who was born in New Richmond and had been in the theater business for many years, died Thursday morning at his home here. He was 77. Alexander got into the theater business through the Little Theater at New Richmond. The stage group worked in an upstairs room over a business house. Alexander was co-owner of a circus for many years, was associated with the Ford Motor Co. in Detroit at one time, and left that company to form a motion picture partnership with Frank Carey. Alexander and Carey owned theaters at Lebanon, Attica, Rockville and Monticello. They moved to Lebanon in 1924. Alexander was a former member of the board of Affiliated Theaters of America. He also was a member of the Methodist Church and the Elks Lodge. Alexander, who had been ill for the last 18 months, was the son of Winton Alexander and Flora Ebright Alexander. He was born at New Richmond Oct. 8, 1888. He was married May 25, 1909, in Frankfort to Ina Pence, who died Oct. 7, 1964. Survivors include a son, Jack, of Lebanon; and two grandchildren. One brother and one sister preceded him in death. Funeral services will be at the Russell and Hitch Funeral Home in Lebanon at 3 p.m. Saturday. Rev. James Morin will officiate and Elks services will also be given. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon. Friends may call at the funeral home.
