Mr. Aikman was a retired farmer and Dana High School graduate. His memberships included Dana United Methodist Church, 60-year member and past master of Bloomingdale Masonic Lodge 127, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Zorah Shrine of Terre Haute, Royal Order of Jesters, Parke County Low 12 Club, Clinton One Half Century Club and Rockville Elks Lodge 2471. Active in Republican politics all his life, he served two terms on the Parke County Council, was a delegate for 28 Republican State Conventions, served as an alternate delegate for the National Republican Convention in 1980 and served as secretary for the Parke County Republican Party for 38 years. He was named a Sagamore of the Wabash under Govs. Otis Bowen and Robert Orr. He was born May 21, 1913, at Vermillion County, to Robert and Emma Jackson Aikman. He married Martha Robertson and Glethel Shrader. Both are deceased. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia J. Aikman. Funeral services are scheduled 1 p.m. Saturday in Gooch Funeral Home, 112 Howard St., Rockville, with the Rev. Brad Bumgardner officiating. Burial will be in Bono Cemetery, Dana.
