Dewey H. Abney, 65-year-old former resident of this city, died Saturday moning in Bakersfield, Calif. Mr. Abney, who was employed by the Lewis-Shepard Co. 25 years before failing health forced him to retire, lived here until 1958. He was a member of the Milligan Memorial Presbyterian Church, Eagles Lodge and Thorntown K of P Lodge. He was born Oct. 7, 1897, at Jamestown, and had moved to this city as a youth. He was a son of Taylor and May Covey Abney. He was twice married. His second marriage, in1932, was to M Peffley, who survives. Other survivors are a son, Lawrence of Roachdale; a foster daughter, Mrs. Marcia Mitchell of San Jose, Calif.; two brothers, Neville of Crawfordsville and Carl of Moccasin, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Nora Lowery of Frankfort; and 16 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, three brothers and a sister. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at Bakersfield at the Doughty-Calhoun-O’Neara Mortuary. Interment will be in Union Cemetery at Bakersfield.
