Postmaster Bonnell is in receipt of the following self explanatory letter:
Taylor, Mo Dec the 27 1899
Mr. P.O. Master – I enclose you a small slip of paper and if you no of the riter of the ad you send me hur address in full and oblige me for I wish to coraspond with Some Lady that Wants to Marrie – I remain your Respetfully, James Ellis, Taylor Mo
The “small slip of paper” referred to by the yearning and amorous Mr. Ellis is from a matrimonial paper, doubtless and reads as follows: #1231. Crawfordsville, Ind. Widow, 34 years old, 5’5” tall, weight 135 lbs, American, good housekeeper; do fancy work; have one girl 15 years old; would like to keep house for a gentleman for awhile and marry later if we were suited; prefer a farmer with dark eyes!
