CORDES, Carroll Arthur - WWII - POW

Pfc. Carroll Cordes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Cordes of Crawfordsvillle who has been missing in actin in France since December 15 is a prisoner of the German government, according to word received by his parents. Pfc. Cordes' father formerly lived in Seymour and the young prisoner is a nephew of TP Cordes, North Chestnut Street. Pfc. Cordes was wounded in action in Italy June 13 after the Americans had taken Rome and he returned to duty with the army about three weeks later. He was awarded the Purple Heart as the result of his wounds.

Pfc. Carroll Arthur Cordes, son of Arthur Cordes of Crawfordsville, formerly of Seymour, has been liberated as a prisoner of war and expectes to be home for 60 days soon, according to a letter received here by his uncle, TP Cordes, North Chestnut Street. The letter received by his parents was written in France where he said they had been flown from Germany in a C-47.  He had been missing since December 16 and word was received three months later he was a prisoner of the Germans.
