Dearest Katie Beth:
How are you my sweet? I'll bet you are lovelier than ever.  Just as sweet I know.
This is an answer to your other letter received a few days ago.  Plenty to do if I care to but a letter to you first.
As long as you can do dishes that is something.  Martha Jean seems to do all the cooking from your letters. Better take a few pointers for you may need them in the future. You asked about our food - it isn't to (sic) bad.  Pancakes for breakfast, "C" rations for dinner but almost always a good meal for supper.  Steaks this evening with chicken tomorrow evening. Doesn't make any difference if you live near Enola or not it seems.  Don't get too friendsly please. She writes a letter once in a while that I answer more for courtesy than any thing else. There is a lot about her you don't know nor do I want you to find out. You said you liked her. She is alright for a friend just don't pay any attention to her nor get her started talking for I found out you can't believe her AT ALL!
At present finds us across the Rhine. Nice country side but cool at nights, rather warn in the day time.  You have been in Indianapolis for quite sometime.  Seems as though you like it very well.
What are you going to do on your vacation? Come on over & see me. Do you think you can make or may be I should ask would you if you could?
Quite a number of hours you put in in one week.  I usually go to bed about 11 & get up at 6:30. Very little time to myself.
No I didn't sell my V-8. Mother is driving it now.  It sure is a swell car.  Plenty fast but no removable seats.  Get what I mean, don't you?
When I return I have to start all over again or just carry on where we left off?
Must run along my Dearest One.
Always All my Love & Kisses - Freddie

Hi Hon:
Have been very busy the last few days. Fact is there hasn't been any loafing time.

You asked if you could come to NY to meet my boat.  After the lecture we had today my answer is "no."  We get off, can't see nor talk to anyone and are sent to our induction center within 48 hrs. Would be easier for me to see you when I get to Indianapolis & you can bet I will for a couple of days at least.

How is your side? If it bothers you have your appendix taken out & soon.  No need in letting them go forever.
All the family is fine. Thanks.
Good movie this evening. Am sure getting my fill.  Never want to see any on my furlough.

All my Love Freddie

Note: Katy Beth did have her appendix out less than a year later.

Hi Hon:
Just a few lines this Sunday morning before going to church.  You have a few letters here on my file to be answered.  Why not any time that there is a few minutes to spare. If not it would never be done.
Nothing new to add since last night when I wrote you.
Cut most of the grass from around our tent this morning bright & early.  Just finished. Too go to go on.
It usually takes your letters from 2-4 weeks. Very few letters ever get here in ten days although some have in 8 days which is extremely excellent.
How are you my Dear? I am fine as usual.  Hot weather here & it just takes everything out of a person. No doubt you feel the same so why say much.
Starting where we left off will be fine. Don't recall what was about to happen yet I remember a lot of things we were doing and planning on doing. Do you?  Parking & Loving. Lots of loving, hugs & kisses to catch up on 'tis true.  Don't know for sure but the information we have is to come to the States in about two months.  A furlough & from there no one seems to know.  Better get to church.  All my Love Freddie
