HOHM, Adolph (Crawfordsville Journal 4-11-1914 "Danville, Illinois" - That ill health and repeated dreams of death were the cause of the self-destruction of Adolph Hohm, a German tailor was the verdict of the corner's jury. Seven years ago he first had a dream in which he died on May 10th. Of late, the dream has been always the same. It is believed that it unsettled his mental faculties and that this brought abouthis suicide. The evidence showed that on March 24 he had his bank book balanced and gave his wife a check for al but $2 of the money. This is taken asan indication that he contemplated suicide. He read with much interest the story of the suicide of William Meharry Wednesday and talked about it with his fellow workmen at the Bolles tailor shop. He took his own life in practically the same manner as Meharry. He left the shop for a few minutes at noon, purchased 3 ounces of carbolic acid, returned to the shop, poured it out in a glass and took it. Workmen who noticed him with the glass and bottle believed he was taking more medication and paid little attention to his actions. He then threw himself on a bench after giving his bank book and other papers to a friend and telling the work men "to give these to my wife" and after a slight pause said to the fellow tailors, "Goodbye" without another word he lay down upon a bench and after a minute got up, fell to the floor and died. There was no domestic trouble. A physician was called to attend, but he died within a few minutes. Walter Hohm of Chicago, a brother of the deceased arrived from Chicago Friday to assist in the making of the funeral arrangements and burial. Mrs. Hohm was formerly a tailor in this city coming here from Muncie. While here he married the eldest daughter of Dr. SG Irwin. His body will be brought here Monday for burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.
4-14-1914 p. 5 - Mr. Adolph Hohm was born in Bavaria, Germany in the year 1862. When a boy of 17 he emigrated to the US settling in NY with an uncle who had come here some years previous. Mr. Hohm in later years learned the tailor's trade. Coming to Danville Illinois in the year 1891 he met and married Mrs. Mary C. Leonard in the same year. Mr. and Mrs. Hohm left later for Muncie, Indiana, Mr. Hohm going in business for himself - some years later he returned to Danville, Illinois where he lived until his death. Some three motnhs ago Mr. H. fell on the icy walk striking his head.
From this time he has suffered a general decline in health. Mr.H. was well known and well liked because of his honesty and integrity. Mr. Hohm was a faithful husband and will be greatly missed by those who knew him best. Funeral services were held from the last residence at 224 W. Madison in Danville. The Rev. A Scott of Hoopston Ill officiated. Thefuneral party will leave for Crawfordsville over the Big 4 at 11:55 when interment will be made in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Henry Hummell was born in Anspach, Germany Aug 14, 1829. In1849, with his parents, he emigrated to this country, settling in Milwaukee, Wis; where he resided till May 12, 1856 when he was married to Mary Shoherncker. He learned the baker trade at which he worked nearly all his life. In 1864 he removed his family to Jeffersonville, Ind where he was engaged in government bakery. In 1869 he removed to Crawfordsville where he resided the greater part of the time since. Henry Hummell was first and greatest of all an honest man; true to his friends, kind and considerate to all. A man of more than ordinary intelligence, broad minded and of large information. No higher praise could be given him than to chisel upon his headstone this sentence: He tried to do his duty. The funeral will be held from the residence of Joseph Kepler, 115 W Pike St at 10 o'clock Monday. Interm at Oak Hill. Friends invited to attend.
