Source: - September Term 1856 (Circuit Court Bk 7 p 51) - State of Indiana, Montgomery County - Montgomery Circuit Court Sept Term 1856 Towit on the 8th day of Sept in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty six, personally appeared in said Court Joseph Huber and filed the following certificate viz: To the Clerk of the Montgomery Circuit Court : Joseph Huber being an alien and a free white person makes the following report of himself: upon his solemn oath declares that he is aged 27 years that he was born in the Dukedom of Baden, Germany that he emigrated from Harve De Grace in the year one thousand eight hundred and forty nine that he arrived in the US in the city of New Orleans in the State of Louisiana on the 1st day of January eighteen hundred and fifty that he owes allegiance to the Dukedom of Baden and that it is bonafide his intention to become a citizen of the US of America; and to renounce forever, all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potently, state, or sovereignty whatever; and particularly to the aforesaid Dukedom of whom he is a subject. Sworn to and subscribed before me on the 5th day of Aug 1854, Andrew P. Lynn., Clerk, MCC. Signed Joseph Huber.
