Browns Valley Detective Association (article very hard to read)
This Association was organized at Browns Valley, Montgomery County, March 16, 1878, with John W. Todd, president under charter of five years. Their constitution limits the membership to Montgomery Co, which is not to exceed 100 in membership. They . conclave appear to be thorough going business. and appoint representatives to similar associations and imporve (?) fine of 50 cents for every failure to fill such appointments. Number of appointments 8, Number of visits made 3; number fined for not going ? One excused ; one absent. ? number of members, 25, with a treasury of $50. No one of this company has ever had a horse stolen. They had a burglary of the store there some time ago, and were successful in pointing to the guilty parties, but the thieves had ? case against them, that was prosecuted when they were caught and are now serving a term of two years, before the Browns Valley detectives get a chance at them. This company always entertains visitors in the most hospital manner.
