Mrs. HOSTETTER Dies at Ladoga / Infirmities of Old Age Claim Long
Time Resident of County / Ladoga, March 2
Mrs. Josephine Christine Kelsey HOSTETTER, long time resident of
Montgomery county, died at her home here Tuesday at midnight
after a serious illness of seven days.
Infirmities of old age caused her death.
Mrs. HOSTETTER was born at Stockwell on June 12, 1852, a daughter
of Amos and Lydia Elliott KELSEY. She was twice married. Her
first marriage at the age of fifteen
was to Joseph Corwin MOTE, who was accidentally killed in 1881.
On Oct 24, 1886, she was married to Newton J. HOSTETTER.
During her first marriage, Mrs. HOSTETTER resided in Darlington.
Four children were born to this union. They are, Mrs. Edward
ROSE and Clyde MOTE, both of Ladoga
and Mrs. Ada MARKEY, of Seattle, Washington. One daughter Stella
died at the age of seven years.
After her marriage to Mr. HOSTETTER, she resided at Mace for
several years and then moved to Ladoga in 1897. Four years ago
she and her husband went to Seattle,
Wash. where Mr. HOSTETTER died on April 9, 1929. She returned
home in August, 1930, and has resided here ever since. Another
daughter, Mrs. Grace HOSTETTER
MILLER, resides in Seattle.
Four grandchildren, Hubert and Joseph MARKEY, Frank MOTE of
Dayton, OH and Leslie LINN of Birmingham, Ala. and five great
grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at
the Ladoga Methodist church, of which Mrs. HOSTETTER was a
member. The services will be conducted
by Rev. Stanley HALL, pastor of the church. Internment will take
place at the Harshbarger cemetery, north of Ladoga.
