Winfield Scott JARVIS the last surviving veteran of the Civil War in Greene Township, died at his home west of town at 3 on Saturday morning. He had been in his usual health but was not feeling so well in the evening. He waked his wife with a request for water and is said to have remarked, "I'm going home. I'm going soon" and peacefully expired. Funeral services at the home were to have been on Monday afternoon but were deferred until Tuesday morning on account of the roads being blocked. Rev. John Servies of the Alamo Christian Church had charge of the services. The pall bearers were Clovis, Raymond, Howard, Jesse, Fred and Henry Harvis; Dr. Harting; Lowell Spencer, Fred Priebe and Charles Barr, members of the American Legion carried the flowers. Burial at Bethany Cemetery.

Funeral services for Winfield Scott Jarvis were held at the home Tuesday morning with Rev. John Servies of Crawfordsville officiating. Pall bearers were Jess Clovis; Howard; Raymonod; Fred and Henry Jarvis. Flower bearers were four American Legion boys, Fred Priebe; Dr. Harting; Charles D. Barr and Lowell Spencer. Mr. Jarvis was the last Civil War Veteran remaining in Green Twp. He seemed in his usual health and ate his supper as usual. He suffered a stroke of apoplexy and died within a few hours. Mr. Jarvis lived a good life. He was a faithful husband, a loving father and a considerate friend. He was the father of 12 children, 10 of whom are living. He is survived by 3 brothers, Thornton of Cayuga; Clark of Indianapolis and James of Milligan. Interment was at Bethany Cemetery, Marshall.

Winfield Scott JARVIS, son of Nathan and Rachel Moore Jarvis was born on January 18, 1847, near Waveland. Departed this life on March 7, 1931 at the age of 84 years 1 month and 17 days. Mr. Jarvis spent most of his life in Greene Twp, Parke Co. He was married to Martha E. SUTTON on March 6, 1873. One important fact that must be stated is "He was an Old Soldier," having enlisted for service as a Civil War Veteran under Capt. Wm. D. Mull, Co. B 115 Regiment of Indiana Volunteers on July 20, 1863, was honorable discharge Feb 25, 1864. During his service he was under charge of Uncle Jack NEWGENT, a famous Old Civil War Chaplain. IN his early life, he became a member of the Waveland Christian Church. He was a good husband and a grand old father. He is survived by his wife and 10 children: Howard A; Jesse M; Fred L; May G; Minnie E. Jacks; Anna L. Watts; Henry W; Ben H; Laura D.; Valley B. Delay; 3 brothers, James Jarvis of Waveland; Thornton Jarvis of Cayuga, Clark Jarvis of Indianapolis 12 grandchildren 4 greats and a host of relatives and friends.
