Waveland, Montgomery County, Indiana
Thursday, October 17, 1940
The too prevalent auto tragedies came near Waveland again when Leo Gephart, a nephew of Mrs. Vincent Swearingen and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Gephart of Browns Valley was killed near Pittsboro. He was with John Walters, Frances and Roberta Walters and they were on their way to Pittsboro to take part in a homecoming carnival. Their care left the road on a curve and turned over several times. Gephart and John Walter, who was driving was instantly killed and Frances Walters received fatal injuries. Roberta Walters is in Methodist hospital in serious condition. Frances Walters was a student in Central Normal. The others were seniors in Pittsboro school. Mr. and Mrs. Swearingen attended the Gephart Funeral on Sunday and that of the Walters on Monday.
