Crawfordsville Journal March 8, 1912
Anthony Gaughan of New Market, aged about 70 and a resident of that place for about 40 years died this morning after a brief illness with heart disease. On Thursday morning, Henry Rush, a neighbor called at the home of Mr. Gaughan and found him in a semi-conscious condition. All efforts to revive him by the attending physicians proved useless and he died today about noon. The funeral will take place on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at St. Bernard's church of which he was a member. It will be conducted by Rev. Father T. McConroy. Interment at Calvary Cemetery. The deceased was a native of Ireland and came to this country when a young man and settled near Mt. Savage, Maryland, and almost 50 years ago he came to this county, where he made many warm personal friends. He was a contractor and constructed many drains in this and adjacent counties. His wife has been death many years and he leaves no near or immediate relatives closer than Pittsburg, Pa. Mr. Gaughan was living alone and had been for a number of years.
