Rev. Homer H. ELMORE

The Rev. Homer H. ELMORE, pastor of the Waveland Baptist church who was a practicing physician when he took up the ministry died Friday at 4 p.m. at the residence, 305 W. Market St. The 74-year-old minister had been ill since Sunday. A native of Montgomery County, the Rev. Elmore was born August 28, 1878 the son of David E. and Alice Elmore. On June 1, 1904 he was married to Julia B. DURHAM who survives. The Rev. Elmore had been practicing medicine in Browns Valley for 8 years when he decided to go into church work. He attended the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Ky. and subsequently held pastorates in Cruthersville, Brownstown, Clinton, Crawfordsville, the Hopewell Baptist Church in Newtown, the 2nd Baptist Church near Marion, and the Freedom Baptist Church in Montgomery Co. before becoming minister at the Waveland Church. The Rev. Elmore was a graduate of the Indiana University Medical School. Survivors, in addition to the widow, include two sons, Ulysses H. Elmore of Crawfordsville and Austin Elmore of Beech Grove; 5 grandchildren and a great grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 at the Waveland Baptist Church, burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family has requested no flowers be sent. Friends may pay their respects at the Hunt & Son Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Saturday. The body will lie in state at the church for an hour preceding the services.
