Mary Easley, eldest daughter of Joseph W & Lucinda J Easley was b. March 6, 1847 and departed this life Aug 27, 1910 aged 63Y 5M 21D. Feb 28, 1869 she was united in marr. to WJ Miles. To this union was b. one daughter, Alice who d. Nov 25, 1882 at the age of 12. This little one with father, mother and two sisters (Nannie and Emma) have preceded her to the Heavenly Home. She leaves to mourn their loss a loving and devoted husband, 3 brothers (Daniel, Benj. and Tilghman), and two sisters, Sarah K and Lucinda F and a host of relatives and friends. Mary was of a quiet, affectionate disposition - beloved by all who knew her - and her death leaves a place vacant in the hearts of her loved ones that can never be filled. When but a young girl, she united with the Freedom Baptist Church and was one of its most faithful members until her death, attending all services regularly, even after she had moved to New Market. One of her last requests was the provision of a liberal sum for the keeping of Freedom Cemetery She was conscious to the last, leaving so many comforting thoughts with those who loved her best and among her last sayings were the words, "I am ready." She made all the arrangements for her funeral, naming the ministers she wished to officiate and those she wished to sing and met death in the calm, sweet way in which she had lived - a beautiful finish to a beautiful life.

Mrs. William T (sic) Miles (Mary Easley), wife of our commissioner, d. at her home in New Market Sat night. She had been sick for 2 weeks. The fun. was held at the Freedom Bapt. Church of which she was a member on Tues. morning Revs Caldwell and Greenfield being in charge. There was a very large attendance. Mrs. M. was the daughter of Joseph and Lucinda Easley and was b. in this township in 1847. She marr. Mr. Miles in 1869. They have no ch. living. Until recently they lived NW of Freedom schoolhouse. She leaves a wide circle of neighbors and friends who sincerely mourn her death. A contributed obit. arrived too late for this issue.
