Lt. Wesley D. Tribbett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Tribbett is one of the combat crewmen of America’s might Superfortresses based on Saipan Island, who have won the Air Medal for their part in numerous successful missions over the Japanese homeland. The decorated crewmen are members of the first Marianas – based B-29s to bomb Tokyo. Some were on the initial strike against the city in November 1944.

Darlington – Wilbur Adams, president of the Darlington Town Board and Wesley Tribbett town electrician and maintenance director who represented the Darlington Armory were two of the five Montgomery men who were honored guests of the 38th Infantry Division of the Montgomery County National Guard Unit which toured the summer camp at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. The other three Montgomery men visiting the troops were E. Mike Plant and Loren Rutledge, city councilmen of Crawfordsville and Frank Puckett, Jr. general manager of the Crawfordsville Review. Sgt. Larry Holt, local Guardsman acted as guide. The men saw the unit parade, formation and saluting of the officers and the firing of the Honest John Rocket. They took part in the facilities and training activities.

Darlington Citizens and other interested persons have been working to update records of both Darlington cemeteries. Last year Greenlawn Cemetery at the east edge of town was reorganized and work was begun to brings its records up to date. A committee which includes Erving Weesner, Mrs. HA Lidikay, Mrs. Mildred Kerr, Mrs. Beulah Williamson, Mrs. Fern Woody and Mrs. Ramona Ainsworth has been sending letters to lot holders and living heirs, requesting cooperation in maintaining the burial grounds. A trust fund has been set up at at First National Bank at Crawfordsville for upkeep of the cemetery. Officers of the organization are: President, Floyd Hampton; VP Henry Lidikah; recording sec, Mrs. James Price; assistant sec, Mrs. Ramona Ainsworth and treasurer, Ralph E. Budd.
A similar reorganization of the Darlington Odd Fellow Cemetery at the west edge of town took place at a meeting at the library for election of officers and a board. John Lynch who had served as president 25 years recently resigned. New officers elected wer President, Frederick R. Butler and sec-treasurer Ebner F. McClaskey. Director are Herbert Royer, WESLEY TRIBBETT, Charles Binford, Marion Maxwell and Marvin Maxwell. The cemetery has also set up a trust fund with a Crawfordsville bank but presently a nominal fee is paid yearly by the holders which is paid in May or around Memorial Day for cemetery maintance.
