TOTTON, Emory, the oldest dentist in Crawfordsville, was born in Trumble Co OH April 2, 1833. He had the advantages of a district school education, attended Gustavus Academy one year and college one year. He began the study of dentistry before he was 21 years old. He came to the county in 1856 and studied dentistry with Dr. Detchon. He made a trip down through Oh into Va; made his home in New Richmond, this state, two years and in 1860 located in the city of Crawfordsville, where he has had a large and successful practice. in 1876 he removed to Bowling Green, Ky; stayed there 3 years and then returned to Crawfordsville. The doctor began life without anything and has made his own way in the world. He was married to Martha A. BARR. She is a member of the Methodist Church. The Dr. is a republican, a Methodist and takes considerable interest in Sunday School work. --transcribed by tracey

Miss Angie Gray of Putnam County, near Greencastle, Ind had from birth a "cleft palate" which prevented articulation and she was quite as much debarred from general social advantages as the deaf mute. Since a recent surgical operation upon her palate by Dr. Totten, the well-known dental surgeon of Crawfordsville, she talks well and is desirous in this public way of expressing her gratitude to him and of informing others similarly afflicted where their burthens may be lifted off. - transcribed by kbz
