ELLIS -- SELBY FAMILIES Note from Sandra: I'm not sure who the Joe Ellis family are. J.W. Selby was the son of Mary Compton Selby Compton wife of John H. Compton. The husband & wife were cousins so that makes his stepson also a cousin!
___ John Wesley Selby was the son of Sarah Jane HATT SELBY and her first husband Charles SELBY.
On 2 March 1862 Sarah Jane HATT married John Hyde COMPTON and they had three daughters, Viola, Elizabeth "Lizzie" and Mary Jane.
Sarah Jane HATT's parents were Joseph VanDoran HATT and Eliza COMPTON. All are buried in the Alamo Cemetery.
John Hyde COMPTON's parents were Nathan COMPTON and Jane HANKINS.
Nathan COMPTON and Eliza COMPTON HATT were brother and sister. Nathan Compton's second wife was Nancy HATT, the sister of Joseph VanDoran Hatt.
I descend from the HATT and the COMPTON families through Joseph VanDoran Hatt and Eliza Compton. They are my great-great-great-great-grandparents. Joseph's grandmother was Elizabeth Hyde Stout and Eliza's mother was Orrminiah Hyde Compton. Elizabeth and Orrminiah were sisters and the daughters of John Hyde and Mary Elizabeth Runyan.
