Sam D. Symmes, trustee of Union Twp was elected on the Republican Ticket. He was born at Pleasant, Switzerland County, Indiana on October 20, 1856. He is a son of Rev. F.M. Symmes, formerly of this city and a grandson of Nathaniel Dunn, a pioneer settler of our county. Sam Symmes has resided in this city since September 1872 at which time he entered Wabash College, where he studied for two years. He has been connected with the printer's business most of the time since 1877. He has just completed a term as State President of the Patriotic Order Sons of America and is now the junior State Past President and he was one of the State delegates to the National Session of this order in 1892, at Lebanon, PA. He was the delegate last year to the meeting of the International Typographical Union which met on October 8, at Louisville, KY. He was married in 1883 and has four children. He will discharge the duties devolving upon him in a straightforward business-like manner.

Trenton, NJ Sept 26 – Samel D. Symmes of Crawfordsville, Ind was chosen national president by the National Camp, Patriotic Order Sons of America, at the closing session of its biennial convention here today. The next convention will be held in 1915 in Washington. The convention unanimously went on record by resolutioin in favor of the passage by Congress of the bill now pending before it to regulate the immigration of aliens and their residence in this country.

All officers of the state, county and city Weights & Measure Inspectors of Indiana were reelected at the closing session of the 18th annual conference yesterday at Hotel Lincoln. Frank Tucker of Noblesville was reelected president. Other officers are Richard White of Columbus, VP and Samuel Symmes of Crawfordsville sec-treas; JA Buck of Terre Haute chairman of nominating committee. Discussion of Indiana specifications for gasoline measuring devices was held preceding the business session and committee reports concluded the business.
