Thomas H. STILWELL, attorney, Covington, Sr. member of the law firm of Stilwell & Dochterman, is a native of Montgomery County, Indiana, his people being among the early pioneers of the County. After receiving his early education, he attended in 1864-5, the Waveland College of that County. In 1866, he came to Fountain Co. and began the study of law, and in Feb 1867, he was admitted to practice. His diploma to practice in the Supreme Court of Indiana is dated Nov 27, 1871. He has served two terms as District Attourney, his first term being Nov 2, 1870. Two years later, he was reelected to the same office. Oct 26, 1874, he was elected Prosecuting Attourney of Ft. for a two years term and in 1876 reelected. Mr. S. came to Covington especially to finish the study of law, and now, in 16 years time, he has not only completed that study, but has also been honored by an office requiring legal talent just one half of the time. He is a member of Covington Lodge No 21 IOOF [Independent Order of Odd Fellows] (Odd Fellows) and is the present noble grand of that lodge. - Transcribed by kbz
