Jordan Samuel Steele was born in Shelby County, Kentucky Oct 4, 1833. He did not graduate from a medical school, but read medicine with Dr. DePew and Dr. Hyten at Danville, Indiana for four years. He went to Waynetown in 1860 and practiced there until he died at an early age in 1873.

His wife, Mary Elizabeth Steele born 1839 died 19 June 1927 Montgomery County, Indiana. Her death record says maiden name was Vassar (Father Simpson mother Nancy) Spouse: Dr. JS Steele, deceased. Born 15 October 1839 in Missouri.
According to her obituary, they also had two daughters, Lola B and Hettie S.
