Guy Spruhan, who has had charge of athletics in the VA Military Institute, since his discharge from army service has been employed for the coming year. A lexington VA Special says: Virginia MIlitary Institute has chose GH Spruhan as coach in 3 of the major sports, football, basketball and baseball for the season of 1919-1920. Mr. Spruhan has been head coach at the institute since Jan 1 and has ably demonstrated his ability in that capcity, if the baseball and basketball teams he turned out can be used as a criterion. Coach Spruhan is a native of Waveland, ind and attended Ohio Univ and the Univ of Mississippi, at both of which he participated in football, basketball and baseball on the varsity teams. After his athletic career, he turned his ability to making athletes of others. In 1912 he went to Roanoke College as general athletic director and coached 5 years. During this period his basketball teams won 48 out of 60, his baseball teams 30 out of 49, and football 25 and tied 4 out of 4 games. While at Roanoke, Coach Spruhan also gave one hour a day to the Salem HS sports and made an even more remarkable record as Salem won 3 state high school championships in basketball and during his last year there also won the football championship.

Guy Spruhan closed his basketball season in the E. in a blaze of glory, winning 14 out of 19 games and the collegiate championship of Va, Tn and NC. He will probably stay with Roanoke College next year although he has other good offers.

Guy Spruhan, who came home last week from Salem, VA where he has been in charge of athletics at Roanoke College left on Tuesday to go to Camp Humphries near Washington DC. He has volunteered for service in the Civil Engineers.

On Sun. morning at half past nine at the home of Dr. and Mrs.  A. J. Kleiser occured the marriage of their daughter, Wanetah to  Mr. Guy H. Spruhan, Rev. J.B. Johnson of the Methodist Church,  reading the ceremony. Only immediate relatives with Misses Helen  Kelso and Corinne Fisher and Mr. Parke Spencer were present. Mrs.  Spruhan wore aquamarine blue georgette over duchess satin,  embroidered in silver beads in Japanese designs. Her bouquet was  of bride's roses and ferns in colonial holder of satin and  streamers to match her dress. Her traveling suit was a midnight  blue Canton crepe dress, full length coat of sealskin and spring  hat of black hair braid faced with white chip and wreath enveiled  with accessories to match. Mr. and Mrs. Spruhan left immediately  after the ceremony for Salem, Va.
 
Mrs. Spruhan is a grad. of WHS '13. She studies in the  Metropolitan School of Music in Indianapolis and graduated from  the Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati. She taught in London and  Millersburg, Ky and for the past 4 years has been in charge of  the violin department and in charge of orchestra at Grenada  College Grenada Miss. She is a violinist of more than usual  talent and has been very generous in giving this talent to her  home community, always ready to help in all programs wherever she  was needed in social, community and Church affairs. She is a  member of the Waveland Dept. Club and of the honorary musical  sorority, Mu Phi Epsilon.
 
Mr. Spruhan is the son of Mr. John Spruhan. He is a WHS grad.  of the class of 1910. He attended the Northwestern Ohio Univ. at  Ada 4 years, grad. from the engineering course. He also attended  the Univ. of Miss. for a time and then went to Salem, Va to take  charge of the athletics in Roanoke College. While at Roanoke he  was called into service into the World War. At its close he went  to the Institute at Lexington, Stonewall Jackson's old school as  athletic director (Virginia Military Institute (VMI)). He was so  successful at VMI that he was called back to Roanoke at a largely  increased salary. He is just completing a three year contract  there and has signed up for 3 years more. He has made himself an  outstanding figure in Southern athletics. He is a member of the  Sigma Pi fraternity.
