Judge Peter Smith aged about 64 years, a negro man very black  about 6 feet high, place of birth: Africa - Residence,  Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, Indiana, name of witness:  James HEATON and Samuel BINFORD.

Judge Peter Smith aged about 64 years, a Negro man, very  black, six feet high, born in Africa, residence in  Crawfordsville, Indiana, appeared before the Clerk of the Circuit  Court of Montgomery County, Indiana on the 15th day of August  A.D. 1853 for registry and it was proved to the satisfaction of  said Clerk by the testimony of William S. GALEY that said Judge  Peter Smith was inhabitant of the state of Indiana at and prior  to the first day of November A.D. 1851. Therefore, it is  determined by said Clerk that said Judge Peter Smith is entitled  to reside in the state of Indiana. Registered August 15th A.D.  1853.
