Simpson - William
Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Review, Sept ?, 1881
William Simpson, a brick mason living in this city, has had
wages raised to $5.00 per day. This is quite an advance, as the
ruling price is $3.50 per day.
Note: William M (probably Martin as middle name but no proof to that) Simpson was the son of James "Martin" Simpson (born 4 Oct 1831 in Ohio came to Crawfordsville as a young boy with his father, John Simpson who had one of the first tanneries in the city). Martin lived within two blocks of his father's tannery for more than 75 years. He died at his home which became William's, his son's.
William M. was born in the section of town and lived on Simpson Street (assumedly named for his grandfather) his entire life. Martin was a builder of the railroad bridges on the Big Four Railroad. His son would inherit his craftiness and was (I think the man above) mainly a house painter for many years.
William M. Martin married ( 8 Nov 1892) in Crawfordsville (by Rev. RA Anglin) Edna Harris, daughter of William K. and Katie Martin Harris, born in Mace. They would have at least four children (Katie, named for her mother); Susan; Doris and Stanley Simpson.
